The rock band X Japan has signed a three-year contract with EMI Music North America, with the first single release scheduled for March 15. The single, titled "Jade," is going to be the band's first single in North America.
Band leader Yoshiki said that they are also planning for an album in summer, and a tour before the end of the year. Yoshiki will also launch a monthly one-hour radio program called Yoshiki Radio on the American satellite network Sirius XM Radio.
The band made its American debut last year with a performance at the rock festival Lollapalooza and other venues. X Japan has created music for anime works such as the X² music video collection and the X film.

Subaru, Gainax Put English Subs on Hōkago no Pleiades

The car maker Subaru and the anime studio Gainax announced on Monday that they are streaming their entire Hōkago no Pleiades (Afterschool Pleiades/Wish Upon the Pleiades) series of original net anime shorts with official English subtitles.
The story centers around an afterschool club of magical girls who help recover fragments so that an alien from Pleiades can return home. The Pleiades is the English name for the star cluster that the Japanese call "Subaru" — the origin of the car maker's name and six-star logo.
The original story's staff includes director Shouji Saeki (Mahoromatic: Tadaima Okaeri, Strike Witches 2 episode storyboarder), concept artist and original character designer Daisuke Kikuchi (Gurren Lagann, Mahoromatic: Tadaima Okaeri), and character designer Mai Otsuka (Shakugan no Shana, Hanamaru Kindergarten). Also involved are art director Hiroshi Kato (Evangelion Shin Gekijōban: Jo/Ha, Gunbuster 2), director of photography Toyonori Yamada (Gurren Lagann, Hanamaru Kindergarten), and color key artist Chie Yoshimura (Chou Gekijouban Keroro Gunso, The Big O).
Anime Boston to Host Female Rock Band Stereopony

The Anime Boston convention announced on Tuesday that the all-female Japanese rock band Stereopony will perform at the April 22-24 event in Massachusetts.The trio of Aimi (vocal/guitar), Nohana (bass), and Shino (drums) first formed in 2007 and gained fame when their debut single, "Hitohira no Hanabira," was featured as the 17th ending theme to Bleach. Their second single, "Namida no Mukō," then became the second opening theme to the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and it debuted at #2 on Oricon's weekly singles charts.
Since then, Stereopony has made its American performance debut at SXSW 2009, released its second album under Sony Records entitled Over the Border and released "Chisana Mahō," the opening theme to the ongoing anime Letter Bee Reverse. They were also put into anime themselves to promote "Sumairaifu," the theme song to the 2009 anime film Yatterman: Shin Yatter Mecha Daishūgō! Omocha no Kuni de Daikessen da Koron!
Stereopony will join by fellow Japanese musical guests Girugamesh at Anime Boston 2011. The convention had previously announced voice actors Brina Palencia, Christopher Ayres, Greg Ayres, J. Michael Tatum, and Richard Epcar as guests of honor.
One Piece Manga Volume 61 Sells 2 Million+ in 3 Days

The market survey firm Oricon reports that the 61st volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga sold 2,086,080 copies between its first official day of sales (February 4) and February 6. It is the first book to sell over 2 million copies in just three days since Oricon began reporting its book ranking charts in April of 2008. This volume topped the previous fastest-selling record held by the 60th volume, which sold 2,094,123 copies in four days in November.

At a retail price of 420 yen, this one volume grossed up to 876,153,600 yen (about US$10.6 million) over the Friday-Sunday period. The top-grossing film in Japan, the first live-action Gantz film, "only" made $4,747,154 this past Saturday and Sunday. Even in its opening weekend the week before, the Gantz film made less money at $7,252,554.
40 of the manga's 61 volumes were also in the top 100 chart this past week. The One Piece Saishūhen The 15th Log summary book went on sale on February 4 and sold 48,326 copies to rank #8 on the comic sales chart.
The 61st volume already holds a record for having 3.8 million copies published in its first print run. The series overall now has more than 200 million copies in print.

Pesquisa: 88% dos leitores de One Piece são adultos

De acordo com pesquisa do canal NHK, divulgada no programa "Today's Close-up", o mangá One Piece, Eichiro Oda, possui seus leitores divididos da seguinte forma: 12% (1 a 18 anos de idade), 43% (19 a 29 anos de idade), 32% (30 a 49 anos de idade) e 12% (> ou = 50 anos de idade).
Nihon TV compra o o estúdio Madhouse

A emissora japonesa Nihon TV anunciou hoje que fechou acordo para adquirir o estúdio de animação Madhouse por aproximadamente 1 bilhão de yen (R$ 20 milhões)no dia 28 deste mês. O objetivo é expandir a área de negócios da emissora.
Com isso, o estúdio Madhouse se tornará uma subsidiária da Nihon TV, que vai deter 85% das ações. Antes da compra, o controlador majoritário era a Index Holding com 60% das ações, enquanto a Nihon TV tinha já 10%. Animes como Death Note, Card Captor Sakura, Hajime no Ippo, Monster são todos produções do estúdio Madhouse.
