The Anime Boston convention announced on Tuesday that the all-female Japanese rock band Stereopony will perform at the April 22-24 event in Massachusetts. The trio of Aimi (vocal/guitar), Nohana (bass), and Shino (drums) first formed in 2007 and gained fame when their debut single, "Hitohira no Hanabira," was featured as the 17th ending theme to Bleach. Their second single, "Namida no Mukō," then became the second opening theme to the second season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and it debuted at #2 on Oricon's weekly singles charts.
Since then, Stereopony has made its American performance debut at SXSW 2009, released its second album under Sony Records entitled Over the Border and released "Chisana Mahō," the opening theme to the ongoing anime Letter Bee Reverse. They were also put into anime themselves to promote "Sumairaifu," the theme song to the 2009 anime film Yatterman: Shin Yatter Mecha Daishūgō! Omocha no Kuni de Daikessen da Koron!
Stereopony will join by fellow Japanese musical guests Girugamesh at Anime Boston 2011. The convention had previously announced voice actors Brina Palencia, Christopher Ayres, Greg Ayres, J. Michael Tatum, and Richard Epcar as guests of honor.
